Are you interested or COMMITTED?
I was reading a quote the other day that really struck me as something y’all needed to hear…“there is a difference between interest and commitment. When you are interested in something, you only do It when it’s convenient. When you are committed to something, you accept no excuses, only results.”
BOOM!
How many of us can relate?
“I’ll stop using tomorrow, maybe…..”
“I’ll think about putting more into that relationship, but only when I feel like it..”
“Since I have all these bad things going on, I’ll try to pray…”
How many of us have said we were going to stop using drugs only to find ourselves back hanging out with the same people in the same garage snorting the same pills?
I know I can for sure. Heck, back when I was only “interested” in getting sober, I would say I was going to stop. Only to then end up hanging out with the same people, the same places and the same habits. I found myself being “uninterested” in staying sober rather quickly. It’s when I decided to commit myself to changing my habits, health and friends that God blessed me with releasing the monkey off my back.
Since, I have committed myself to doing those things. Surrounding myself with people who bring the best out in me, staying healthy and faithful to God. I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure those things are priorities in my life.
You must be committed to staying sober. The odds are stacked against you. That’s a fact jack!
You have to have the mindset of a champion, to win at all costs and never take no for an answer. Do everything you need to do to get the job done. Look to things such as faith, solid friendships and healthy living to propel and support your sober living experience.
When it comes to relationships, this is something we have to be committed to folks. It’s not a half time job, it’s a full time job. Relationship with Christ, relationship with friends/family and YOURSELF.
There are going to be times where you have to do the work. Seek outside help.
Let go of your ego. Learn to be more humble and kind.
Something somewhat recently happened and I needed to seek some “outside help.” I have a relationship with someone that needed some outside perspective. In my past, I would just walk away and move on. I was only “interested” in those relationships, not committed.
This time, I wanted to know how I could be better. I wanted to do whatever it takes to make it work, to show that I am committed. The outside perspective shined some light on both of us and was a blessing. Sometimes you need to humble yourself and learn that you don’t have all the answers. We must learn to gain wisdom and seek understanding so that we may not lean on our own.
I thankfully saw some serious growth in the relationship; praise God!
Are we only praying to God when we want something?
I think many do.
When we want that new car or new house… we pray
When we are deep in debt or want a raise… we pray
When we are feeling stressed… we pray
Folks, that is an example of seeking God’s love through prayer only when it is convenient for you. You are simply interested if this is a practice of yours.
Instead be committed to Him EVERY SINGLE DAY.
When you pray, give thanks.
When you pray, pray for others.
When you pray, pray for peace.
Be committed to prayer, no matter what the circumstances are. Doing this will NOT guarantee you your life will be great or those things will come. But, it will grant you peace as you go throughout your day.
One thing I have been doing to deepen my commitment to prayer is just simply taking time to thank God for His consistent love, kindness and forgiveness. It’s overwhelming and humbling. I am very blessed for that.
