Listen, if you’re in recovery, if you’re battling adversity, if you’ve got a lot of stress on your plate and you’re not working out, you are missing the boat. I mean, outside of the physical benefits of working out, such as improved body composition, lower blood pressure, lower risk of diabetes, heart disease, heart attack etc and all the other things we already know physically it does for us.

The mental, emotional and spiritual benefits are where it can really change the game. This includes improving your self-confidence, awareness, energy and your commitment to yourself. Remember, the best way to improve your confidence is to follow through with the things that you tell yourself to do as well as being really in tune with your inner self and what you

When you set goals in your workouts and when you’re committed to going to the gym, it transfers in other areas of your life.

More importantly, it will improve your overall health. You’ll be sick less, feel better and your energy will be revitalized. Remember, mental fitness and physical fitness go hand in hand. I mean, I don’t know about you, but whenever I’m sick or I’m not feeling well physically, mentally I am just feeling awful as well.

I don’t just mean this it just works for me. It works for a lot of people. As a matter of fact, in my newest book, The Heart of Recovery, I interviewed 50 of the most inspiring people who are thriving in recovery about their top tips and habits on what they do to thrive in recovery to help other people set a solid foundation for their recovery. The types of things they can implement into their lives to make sure they’re living their best and working out was a staple.

Drugs and/or alcohol numbs a person, and gives them a false sense of happiness and a distorted view of reality. While a great first step is eliminating drugs and alcohol from your life, filling the void left behind with healthy things is a must in order to thrive in recovery. Of course, we all get stressed, anxious, depressed, and upset from time to time. That’s perfectly normal. It’s life. However, we will either manage these feelings in a healthy or an unhealthy way.

So instead of vaping, smoking cigarettes, binging on fast food, and switch those habits to working out, eating right, surrounding yourself with great people, getting a spirituality practice that works for you, and just being grateful. For instance, be grateful that you do have a body that you’re able to continue to put effort in and work on.

Make sure you’re working out today. It is the most underutilized tool there is in recovery, is fitness and nutrition. I will say that until the day I die. Have a great day.
